Every week I post about one thing that happened at Rows. We're building in public!

Hello! Welcome to the new year! Last week we took some days off, so this is a short one.

But first, a bit house-cleaning announcements:

  1. I'm moving numbering of the weeks in the Posts to ISO 8601. It's just easier. Why do you care? Well, if you're really into spreadsheets, you care about WEEKNUM()!

  2. Also, I will also use the post date as the date for the week numbering, instead of using the events date (which is the previous week). Again, easier.

  3. My posts will be written for an AMA model. Ask Me Anything! Let's try it out.

So, last week I went to the cinema to watch Godzilla Minus One.

I liked it a lot, and I'm not the only one. The movie has pretty solid reviews, scoring 8.4 at IMdB, 80 at MetaCritic80, and 98% at RottenTomatoes. What's more interesting, this movie isn't the Hollywood-sponsored blockbuster you're expect, but a Japanese original whose budget is less than 10x smaller than the last American Godzilla. ("<$15m" vs "$150-$200m").

It's still got all the ingredients you want: at different times scary, fun and serious. There's a well built narrative and good acting. Plus, there's fights and the big Godzilla monster. Sound and visual effects are great, and there's a good mix of the modern ones and the retro styled stuff.

For 2024, it's a great goal: to do better than the large block buster softwares, with less.

  • the monster is clearly AI, and it will feature prominently at Rows.

  • but it's the users journeys we must build around, with their small and big needs (like formatting options and Data!).

Spreadsheets are all about Action!

See you next week (and go see that movie!).
