The Drag to Fill feature simplifies data entry by allowing users to quickly populate cells with a sequence of values.
How to use Drag to Fill
Simply drag the square handle on the bottom-right corner of a cell or range, and the extended cells will automatically fill based on the established sequence. It works when dragging down but also when dragging to the right.
Drag to Fill is especially useful to complete a sequence of numbers and dates!
- Numerical Sequence: Enter numbers like 1, 2, 3 in consecutive cells, select the sequence, and drag to auto-fill the range with the incremental sequence, that is 4, 5, 6.
- Dates: Enter "2024-01-01", "2024-01-02" in consecutive cells, and drag the corner to automatically populate cells with the subsequent dates. It detects sequences spread out in days, weeks, and months!
Introducing Smart Drag Fill✨
We think it's the best thing since sliced bread 🔪🍞.
Our new Smart Drag Fill uses AI to fill sequences that normal spreadsheets wouldn't know how to handle. Examples:
- Example 1: Enter "black", "blue" in consecutive cells, select the sequence, press
shift, and drag to auto-fill the range with the incremental sequence, that is "green", "red", "yellow" and so on. - Example 2: Enter "IPhone 4", "IPhone 5" in consecutive cells, select the sequence, press
shift, and drag to auto-fill the range with the incremental sequence, that is "IPhone 6", "IPhone 7", "IPhone 8", "IPhone X" and so on. - etc.
How to use the new Smart Drag to Fill✨
Press the shift key while dragging, and the OpenAI integration analyzes existing data to suggest the most suitable sequence for filling the next cells.
Requirements for Smart Drag Fill✨
The regular Drag Fill is always available, but Smart Drag Fill is a Premium Feature as it relies on the OpenAI Integration.
- Users in free workspaces have access to 50 integration calls per month.
- Users can upgrade their workspace to a paid plan to gain unlimited access to the OpenAI Integration.
- When you try to do a Smart Drag Fill for the first time, you will get a request to connect the OpenAI Integration in case you haven't connected it yet.
- Smart Drag Fill consumes one OpenAI request per column. Results are capped by OpenAI response size.
